Fertility Specialist - Just What the Doctor Ordered!
If you want to have a child but are having difficulty becoming pregnant, a fertility specialist may need to be consulted. These doctors specialize in the treatment of fertility problems and help couples achieve their goal of becoming pregnant. The most frequent reason a couple seeks out a fertility specialist if that, after numerous attempts using natural and fertility monitor-assisted attempts, pregnancy has not occurred in more than one or two years. They want to learn if there is a medical reason for the fact that they seem to be infertile. The fertility specialist will begin by learning as much about the couple's health and medical history as possible as well as about their attempt to become pregnant. Almost all specialists in this field of medicine start with some basics to begin seeking why the couple is not achieving a successful fertilization of an egg. The process may vary somewhat from doctor to doctor or fertility center to fertility center, but the steps are always very similar. Both partners will be evaluated by the specialty in fertility to determine if a physical problem such as tubal scaring, cervical infection, malformed vas or other problem is the cause of the infertility. Bacteria and viral cultures may be taken from the vagina to ensure that no obstacles exist resulting in a fertility problem that can be resolved by medication and treatment simply and easily. Part of the process in a fertility workup performed by a fertility specialist will be fertility tests for both of the partners. This testing is used to learn if the male and female both have correct hormone levels and whether sperm and ova are being produced. There will usually be an analysis of the sperm from the male and hormone testing to determine that the woman is producing active ova. Further testing may require that the couple have a post-coital (after sexual intercourse) workups may be required to learn even more. There are an entire platoon of tests of workups that may be required before it can be determined the exact cause of the couple's fertility difficulties. Visiting a fertility specialist can be quite expensive and may not be covered by insurance in part or in full. It is a good idea to study other alternatives before turning to this complex and costly specialist. However, when all else fails, these practitioners have helped millions of couples successfully have healthy babies using one of the many techniques available for couples with fertility difficulties.
