Find a Fertility Friend
There are many women dealing with fertility difficulties and, one way to help relieve yourself from the stresses associated with failure to become pregnant is to find a fertility friend. If you can bond with another person going through the same situation, it can help both of you deal with the situation and, perhaps, one or both of you will have the joy of successfully becoming pregnant. A fertility friend is simply another woman – or another couple if your partner wants to be involved – that can relate to the difficulties of apparent infertility. Someone that has never had the experience of failing to conceive after months of trying simply can't be as supportive as someone that is, or has, gone through the same life experience. One great fertility friend to locate is a woman that experienced fertility difficulties but successfully overcame them. This woman can be a source of advice, a shoulder to cry on when failure occurs, and a person with whom you can share hopes and dreams. There are pros and cons of having a fertility friend. If two women are both trying to get pregnant and become friends the each other through the tough times, it can be heart breaking when only one becomes pregnant while the other continues to fight the battle to try to have a child. This is, perhaps the biggest reason that a woman that has overcome the problem and achieved pregnancy can be the best type of fertility friend. Your fertility friend doesn't have to live near you. With computer technology and inexpensive long distance telephone rates, your friend might well be across the country or even across the world. Online discussion groups and chat rooms allow women (and men) dealing with fertility problems to form bonded friendships over distance. There are even support groups for couples or women dealing with their difficulties with conceiving a child. This is a great place to find a good fertility friend. These groups meet regularly in larger cities to share their experience, strength and hope as well as the latest news on research and treatments. Everyone cheers when one of the members succeeds and everyone shares the sorrow of a failed fertility treatment. However, often a person will find someone they can closely relate to inside one of these groups and develop a special fertility friendship. Everyone needs love and support from friends and a woman or couple dealing with trying to get pregnant is no different. In fact, the support from friends is even more crucial. Friendship allows a healthy place to vent, discuss, mentor and avoid the ever-present problem of feeling that only your partner knows what you are going through. Whether you have been trying to get pregnant for a month or for several years, you may find that having a fertility friend allows you the outlet and provides you the support that will allow you to avoid being obsessed all the time with your lack of success. Sometimes, that can be all it takes for a couple that has been unable to conceive to have a happy, healthy and successful pregnancy.
